Once James, the DAPP Book Shop manager, told me that Malawian people eat mouse. But I couldn't believe so much what he was talking about until this week. Last Wednesday I read on a magazine a article which title was “Biting poverty with mince”. It was saying that people from the tribes of Chewa, Lhomwe and Ngoni usually eat mince. Today the two biggest Malawi population groups are the Chewas and Lhomwes with almost 6.5 million people. The Ngonis are the fourth largest group. So that's why Malawi people have this peculiar taste. The article told about the profitable business of selling mince on the street. It told about a men that gets MK 5000 (about US$34) from sales of 500 mice on a single day. The usual customers are people travelling by road. The article didn't say about how the mouse meat tastes but I'm lucky to be vegetarian!
